The BLS uses a hilarious “birth/death model” to estimate how many jobs in an industry were created vs how many were destroyed. It doesn’t have any actual proof for its estimate — it pulls it out of thin air, really. And then it prints it as a fact. The 162,000 number is, then, a fantasy and not a real survey of the workforce.
